Project Details

The structural design review focuses on a massive steel-frame warehouse with an expansive floor area of 11,000 square meters, including integrated mezzanine levels, located in Leicester, UK. The project involves a comprehensive evaluation of the steel framing system, ensuring optimal structural integrity, load distribution, and compliance with local building codes and Eurocode standards. Key considerations include the lateral stability of the structure under wind and seismic loads, floor loading capacities for heavy-duty storage, and the performance of mezzanine connections under variable live loads. Additionally, the design incorporates fire-resistant detailing and sustainability measures, such as lightweight steel sections and efficient use of materials, to enhance the overall performance and lifecycle of the building. This project exemplifies precision engineering and innovative design to meet the demands of modern warehousing and logistics operations.

Role

Structural Engineer/Designer

Services Provided

Comprehensive range of structural engineering services tailored to ensure the safe and efficient execution of modifications to an existing steel-frame structure. These services include detailed structural calculations, such as loading analyses for wind, snow, dead, and live loads, as well as verification checks for the existing steel frame to accommodate new roof loads, including photovoltaic (PV) panels. The scope also covers analysis and design for potential steel frame support in the overhang demolition area, accompanied by a demolition methodology and step-by-step instructions.

To support these calculations, structural drawings has bee provided, reflecting any necessary new foundations, particularly in the demolition area where a new steel frame is anticipated. These drawings include a foundation plan, roof framing plan, steel framing elevations, steel connection details, and typical structural details with notes and specifications. Additionally, a bar bending schedule (BBS) has been prepared for the new foundations to ensure accuracy in reinforcement detailing. This service package is designed to maintain structural integrity, align with safety standards, and streamline the construction and demolition processes.
